Vic boy in court accused of doctor assault

A teenage boy is set to return to court seeking bail over an alleged group assault on an American doctor and his teenage son as they left the Australian Open.

The 17-year-old is one of five youths charged over the alleged attack on Dr Edmund Pribitkin and his teenage son, Edik, near Melbourne's Queen Victoria Gardens in January.

The boy has asked for bail and a decision is expected to be made when he returns to a children's court on Wednesday.

Dr Pribitkin, 52, was put in an induced coma following the alleged assault and had titanium plates inserted in his face.

Blood from the surgeon and his son were found on the clothes of two other youths charged over the attack, the court has previously heard.

The accused group includes three boys, who are in custody, and two girls, who are on bail.
